Shale.
LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM:
President, Jonathan Moore, led the Club with singing
“America” and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Invocation was
given by Pamela Cicioni. Allison McElroy led the club in singing
“Sing Rotarians” which Sean Keith had introduced to the Club
last week. (We still need a lot of practice to pull this one
off.)
Dick Trammel
introduced Robin Green with a program on the Cancer Challenge.
Robin has six years as a volunteer with the Cancer Challenge and
at that time there were only about 300 volunteers. Today, there
are over 500 volunteers and growing. Robin introduced Tina
Waggener the executive director for the Cancer Challenge, who
has over 11 years of experience with the foundation.
The Cancer
Challenge is a non-profit foundation helping to raise funds for
organizations in NW Arkansas to support programs and services
designed around the early detection, prevention, diagnosis,
research and treatment of cancer. The event started about 15
years ago as the Phillips Classic, and became the Cancer
Challenge in 1996.
This year’s Cancer
Challenge will be on June 19-21, 2008 and will have events such
as, f golf and tennis tournaments, trap shooting, 5K run/walk,
followed by a celebration party and auction. There will by the
annual Motorcycle Poker Run & Show in September.
Over $7.0 million
dollars has been gifted back to the NWA community to support
much needed cancer services and programs over the past 15 years.
The money stays local too.
Robin and Tina encourage you to get involved: become an event
sponsor, donate items to the auction or player bags events,
volunteer, build your own personal website and sent to family
and friends asking them to help support the cause.
The Cancer
Challenge 5k and 1-mile courses will be held on Saturday, June
21, 2008, The participants will begin and end at the new Arvest
